Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus announced on Tuesday the 20th that a ”majority of starters” will not be competing against the Chiefs on Thursday. Eberflus continued that Kiran Amegadjie is activated and that he feels postive about him. He also feels positive about the ”process” that the team has been going through this summer. Coach speak aside, I am really glad that a majority of starters are out for Chiefs game.
Having your starters out shows that Eberflus, Eric Washington (the DC), and Shane Waldron (the OC) are confident in the roster. The last thing I want to see as a fan is second guessing where DJ Moore stands, or where Jaylon Johnson stands. The starters on this team are prepped and ready for the regular season. I could not be happier about this.
While we do not know the exact roster for Thursday I’m not closely examining the backup QB battle. I think that Tyson Bagent has proven himself to be QB2. The big question is whether or not the Bears will keep Brett Rypien or Austin Reed on practice squad. My prediction is that Reed will be on the practice squad and Rypien is cut. Rypien isn’t ”that” much better than Austin Reed and Reed most likely comes at a lower price tag - and he’s ”moldable” being a rookie. Another offensive player to look out for this upcoming game is Velus Jones JR as he battles Ian Wheeler for a RB position. I do predict Velus gets more playing time and it will start to click for him against Kansas City. I feel really good about our receivers, I’ll have commentary on roster cut predictions for WR (and the team as a whole) after this weekend. O-Line, I don’t even know where to begin. I would need to see who is playing but I feel good (so far) about our O-Line – except for Nate Davis. On the defensive side of the ball we can expect to see the fifth round pick Austin Booker put it all on the line to prove he’s worthy of a draft pick, just as much as Odunze or maybe even Williams. After the Bengals and Bills game I feel really good about our secondary defense. I’ll tune into this game, but, that Titans game could not come soon enough. Roster coverage and predictions to come next week.
