Caleb Confirms Contract

bearclawupdates

"Ladies and gentlemen, we got him" -George W Bush on the Caleb Williams contract.  Most people don't know this but Bush was widely considered to  be the Nostradamus of the NFL.

#1 2024 draft pick Caleb Williams has signed a four year, fully guaranteed contract worth $39 million which includes a hefty $25.5 million signing bonus and a fifth year option.  Will this year finally be different?  Is Williams finally the savior of this franchise?  These questions will be answered in time, time that I know I am anxiously awaiting.  A question we can answer now is "how does this contract compare to other NFL rookie QB's?"  Per Spotrac (https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/draft/_/year/2024/sort/pick) Caleb is earning just above the four QB's drafted after him with Jayden Daniels at $37M, Drake Maye at $36M, Michael Penix JR at $22M, and J.J. McCarthy at $21M.  All signing bonuses generally follow this pattern as well.  Not too bad Caleb.  Comparing Williams to Fields and Trubisky though is another story.

Justin Fields was signed to only $18,871,957 while Mitch Trubisky was signed to a contract worth $29M with $19M being a signing bonus.  Another footnote in the strained relationship between the Bears organization and Fields.  Mitchell Trubisky's cap hit in 2017 when he signed was $5.2M while Field's cap hit in 2021 when he signed was $3.4M.  The Bears were treading lightly with Fields.  They had spent a LOT of money on Trubisky and his cap hit was in the top 10 on the roster.  Williams has a cap hit of $7.1M putting him also within the top 10 of cap hit this year.  Going off of ranking gives us a clearer picture of what this means considering NFL salaries trend upwards and cap hits rise just about every year.

The Bears are serious about Williams, that much we can infer.  They are more serious and dedicated to him out the gate than they were to Fields and Trubisky.  The Bears think they finally have their man.  Do you?

$29 million for Mitch. I'm going to go ask my boss for a raise now. Caleb should just dry-erase that to his mirror as a daily reminder and he should be fine.

Considering everything invested into Caleb and a lack of a true veteran I’m going to say that yes Caleb Williams will be starter day 1
