Player Preview, Bears v Titans: DJ Moore

bearclawupdates

We made it everyone!  We are finally in week 1 of the NFL! WOOO! It was nice having college football back, but all its done is made me crave that first Caleb Williams snap of the 2024 regular season even more; and when I think of that first Williams snap, there is only one person I picture him throwing to.  DJ Moore.

The Bears released their unofficial depth chart for the upcoming Tennessee Titans game and surprise, DJ Moore is starting.  While I love the addition of Keenan Allen as a veteran, and I can’t wait to see how Rome Odunze develops – I’m most excited to see DJ this year as a WR.  He was able to get some great plays off with Justin Fields, so to me the sky is the limit with Williams.

Predicting Moore’s stats for this Titans game is tricky.  First off, as high as we Bears fans are on Williams – he’s a rookie.  Very high chance he does not play well and the Bears call plays very conservatively.  In fact, a lot of so called “experts” would tell you to take the under on total points for this game (45.5 courtesy of FanDuel).  Honestly, I agree with this.  I would take the under (Bears win though, duh).  I do however think that DJ Moore will have a good game.

  • Receptions: 10

  • Receiving Yards: 100-110 yards

  • Touchdowns: 2

3.3 receptions over the course of 3 quarters for a combined 10 receptions is reasonable in my mind.  I’m being conservative and assuming he does not play all 4 quarters in favor of testing out some plays with Rome Odunze.  Not sure if this would play out – but for the sake of my stat argument I am assuming Moore only plays 3 Q’s.  The Bears are going to play DJ Moore deep.  The Titans’ starting safeties Amani Hooker and Quandre Diggs are not great players.  Both players are mid-ranked on PFF with Hooker allowing 36 receptions (tied for 9th overall in the league) and Diggs allowing 20 receptions (tied for 48th overall in the league).  I predict that DJ Moore easily routes these guys and goes for 10 yards per gain on average.  I think Moore scores us two touchdowns.  While I think we hit the under on total points due to trouble with the run game, I think we do well passing – especially to DJ Moore.
