To all 10 of my loyal readers: do not worry, I did not fall into hole that leads to the center of the earth. I was out of the country for a couple of weeks on my delayed honeymoon. While my wife and I had a wonderful and romantic two weeks in the country of Europe, I did miss three (3!!!) Bears games. Looking back on those games though, I think I came back into the season at a good spot.
This past Sunday we finally got to see Caleb Williams be the quarterback we drafted. He was mobile, he looked comfortable when he was in the pocket, he made some great throws both planned and on the move. I love when he makes those sidearm leaping throws on the run. What more could you ask for when every team in the league is trying to replicate Mahomes? This was the confidence boosting game for this hungry Bears team that we all needed. I don’t know what was better – Caleb Williams throwing two touchdowns, watching a competent O-Line for once, or watching a defense that was able to shut down the Red Rifle. Speaking of, welcome back Andy Dalton, maybe I speak for myself when I say I missed you. The Bears franchise QB that could have been.
I know what a lot of you are thinking. ”The Panthers are a complete dogshit team, of course the Bears won.” Fair, but, a win is a win. We also hung 36 on the Panthers. I don’t care how bad an NFL team is, putting up 36 on a team is more of a CFB score. ”The Panthers are still bad” ok, well the 49ers (a 7 point favorite) lost to the Cardinals at home and Seahawks lost to the Giants at home. This a league where a win is a win. Caleb looked great against the blitz which is rare for a Bears QB. From what I have read about the games I missed, he was started to identify blitz coverage and I definitely saw him and the O-Line do a great job protecting against the blitz. As someone who is used to watching their QB get sacked for an 8 yard loss I am ECSTATIC about this growth from Williams and the O-Line. Also, Shane Waldron called a great game. Again, I did not watch the last few games but the offense he called on Sunday gave us 424 yards, some incredible DJ Moore catches, and a solid run game using D’Andre Swift.
The Bears won. We looked good. What else matters?
