The Monday Mood - July 22nd 2024

bearclawupdates

Welcome to The Monday Mood! During the regular season this will be post that breaks down Sunday's game. For now, I'll give my mood about the Bears from what I've seen/heard out of training camp. Reports out of Halas Hall point towards what I'd like to think we all know but -

Breaking News: Caleb Williams is a rookie QB and has made good and bad throws. Some real big J journalism going on at The Bear Claw.

He's had some good reads to D.J. Moore and Rome Odunze and he's had incompletions to Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze. A rookie QB had good throws and bad throws. Look, as much as I'd like to take a hardline stance on the incoming savior of the franchise for views and clicks, I can't. "We're in here talking about practice. I mean listen, we're talking about practice. Not a game! Not a game! Not a game! We're talking about practice." -Allen Iverson

My mood about Caleb Williams? I don't have one, thats the truth. He's been in what? Two practices? I don't have an opinion on him, which is probably good lest this blog become "The Caleb Williams Glaze".

Yet, the more I think about it, I do have a "mood" in regards to one aspect of this Bears team...

The Defense

The defense, everyone's favorite NFL topic in today's beyond-west-coast-run-and-gun-air-raid-how-far-can-you-scramble-and-then-throw-the-ball-for-a-90-yard-completion offense. Per Adam Jahns of The Athletic "The pass rush — starting with defensive end Montez Sweat — looked that good." Regardless of William's rookie status, the defense is sounding cohesive and effective. I'm in a good mood about that and I'll turn my "is this finally The QB" optimism towards the defense. We'll have to wait for full pads this upcoming weekend but Bears fans should start to be excited about the Monsters of the Midway. Its July, its hot, we all want football back on. Hell, I've been watching the Dolphins in-season Hard Knocks just to see football on my TV; BUT, over the next few weeks I want everyone to remember we're talking about practice here. When Caleb is intercepted, when Allen runs a bad route, or when the defense isn't lined up properly just remember we're talking about practice. Not a game. Practice.
