The Bears have had eight training camp practices (with only two of them being full pads). They have their first game of the season coming up - preseason sure, but its football on my TV and I could not be more excited about that. How are we feeling about this team so far Bears fans? Excited to see Caleb? Worried about our O-Line? Let me know in the comments below.
Going into this week and the Hall of Fame game, I'm in a good mood about Caleb. Reports out of training camp have been good overall. The Williams criticism echoed the most has been trouble with the two-minute drill and interceptions (if not, near interceptions). New playbook, veteran defense. What do you want out of the rookie QB in 8 practices? I know I want to see a leader, which, so far he has been. Williams has said "I'm always tough about the mistakes, that's the best part about me that drives everything. Being tough on myself, being tough on the mistakes that happen, whether it's (missed assignments), a turnover or anything like that, being tough on myself and understanding that there are going to be mistakes". Well said kid. He sounds self aware and mature. He sounds like a leader and that puts me in a good mood.
I am in a REALLY good mood about our receiving core thus far. Keenan Allen seems to be a prime target for Williams and we've started to see Tyler Scott (A lot of you are probably googling him right now, I can tell you I honestly had to) step up as a viable target this year. I am in a really good also in regards to defense. I would argue that any of Caleb Williams' challenges during training camp are mostly from facing a dynamic veteran offense.
This is a short one today Bear's fans. As easy as it would be to regurgitate the gazillion articles from people actually at training camp, I don't believe that to be in my or your best interest. I'm here to give you my thoughts and analysis and opinions and right now I don't have much to say. I'll always be honest with you since you're taking valuable time to read my articles (columns? Is this an article or a column, is there a difference?). Thank you all very much for the support so far. This has been very fun to start and I am so excited to see this take off once the season is underway.
Tomorrow I'll highlight one or two Bears players that you don't get a chance to read about too often - hint, one of them was mentioned in this article... I hope you'll join me, same place same time?
